Field Notes - Le jambon beurre

On a rainy wednesday, in November 2023, the humble baguette was acknowledged and enshrined forever by UNESCO as “a thing of exceptional interest for the common heritage of mankind.” The French, naturally, were delighted — not because they needed international validation, (although they do love it) but because it confirmed what they already knew: our bread is much better than yours.
